Monica DeSilvey
joined the HRA team in 2006 shortly following her graduation from the University of Washington, where she received a
Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics. Her particular areas of
interest include theories of second language acquisition, semantic
variation both within one particular language and in multi-language
comparisons, the challenges of translation, and the study of Russian
and Korean language. Monica’s experience of working with locals
on service projects in three different countries in Central America, Eastern Europe, and Sub-Saharan Africa has
challenged her to see the world through different cultural eyes and has
given her a great appreciation for a variety of view points.
