Clarice Wirkala, MA received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington in International Studies and Anthropology, and her Master’s degree from Seattle University in Psychology. She is working towards a PhD in Developmental Psychology at Columbia University and is a University Writing Instructor at Columbia. Clarice was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, speaking Portuguese and Spanish. She worked as a Spanish instructor for many years and as a psychotherapist with diverse and at-risk populations in Seattle. Clarice has worked and volunteered for non-profit organizations around the world, in countries including Mozambique, Ukraine, Argentina, Peru and Guatemala. Her research experience includes work at the Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics at the University of Washington, and at the Education for Thinking Institute at Columbia University. She has been trained in a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Clarice joined the HRA team in 2006, and worked as a Spanish consultant and translator for HRA for many years prior. She is currently based in New York City as a Project Coordinator for HRA studies.
